The Alberta Government has given the green light for logging of 900 hectares (or 833 soccer fields) of West Bragg Creek and Moose Mountain Trails in 2026. The planned clear cut is 362 hectares in West Bragg Creek and 376 hectares of Moose Mountain’s networks.
This clear cut will remove the majority of remaining older growth in the West Bragg and Moose Mountain area and will have an irreversible effect on the experience of outdoor recreation in the area.
The list of affected trails includes:
West Bragg Creek:
- Fullerton Loop
- Sugar Daddy
- Sugar Mama
- Bobcat, Sugar Pony
- Ranger Summit
- "Slithering Owl's" official replacement
- Snowy Owl
- Boundary
- Elbow Loop
Moose Mountain:
- Pneuma
- Sulphur Springs
- 7-27
- Race of Spades
- Plus one new climb trail and one DH trail that are as yet unnamed or opened but are almost complete and have been on the plans and in development for 5 years.
💸UCP Government still charging Albertans for "conservation pass"
Under the UCP, the Alberta Government has been charging Albertans $90/year for a "Kananaskis Conservation Pass" to access the trails. Now the Alberta Government is rubber stamping logging of the very same trails they were supposedly conserving.

Fullerton Loop in West Bragg Creek, a short drive away from Calgary, is one of several trail areas planned to be logged in 2026.
